You might think that exercising on a daily basis is a good idea, but fitness experts recommend taking a break to give your body a chance to recover. This recovery time is especially important when you aren't in the best physical condition, leading to sore muscles and tendons. Here are five ways to reduce the recovery time between workouts.
1. Have a Cooling Down Period After Your Workout
In addition to warming up for 10 to 15 minutes before your workout, make sure to have a cooling down period after exercising. This gives your tendons or muscles a chance to relax after intense exercise, and this is also an excellent time for you to begin drinking water to hydrate your body after losing moisture from sweat.
2. Take a Soothing Bath
If your muscles or tendons feel sore after a workout, then you can have a soothing bath or soak in a hot tub. In most cases, a warm or hot bath is just what your body requires to avoid any cramping in your legs, arms, or back. A post-workout soak in a hot tub reduces lactic acid build up, which will help reduce muscle soreness between workouts.
3. Eat a Nutritious Meal After a Workout
When you have had an extended workout, your body needs fuel, but make sure to choose nutritious foods. You can have tasty vegetables or lean protein, and fresh fruit will help you to hydrate your body. Avoid drinking caffeinated beverages such as tea, coffee or soft drinks because caffeine is a diuretic that will make you feel more dehydrated.
4. Massage Your Own Body
Massaging your muscles after exercise can prevent cramps, and you don’t need to visit a day spa. Look for self-massage equipment at a local sporting goods store that you can take home to use after your workouts, or if you aren’t big on self-massage, you can always see braces, compresses, and pads to help lighten the wear and tear of the workout.
5. Sleep To Repair Your Body
It is essential to get enough sleep while you are exercising at home or in a gym. The average adult requires eight hours of sleep each night to feel best.Create a comfortable sleeping environment with a quiet bedroom that is dark. Make sure that your bedroom is the proper temperature so that you have a restful night's sleep.
